Trading Standards Officer Full Time Temporary

Trading Standards Officer needed in Brixton paying £26.11 per hr PAYE ref: 498645

This role is full time on a temporary basis.

Responsibilities:

• To play a key role in the design and operational delivery of a wide range of Trading Standards cases and initiatives; which deliver positive community safeguarding outcomes on behalf of citizens, stakeholders and partner organisations
• To carry out inspection duties under the full range of legislation enforced by the Trading Standards Team, deal with any follow up work and represent the Authority at Court as required. This will require lone working and dealing with clients on contentious issues on site
• To participate in the promotion of trading standards/community safety initiatives and awareness, and consumer and business education activities
• To act as an authorised officer for specified legislation and undertake inspections, visits and regulatory activity to ensure compliance with all relevant consumer protection / trading standards legislation
• To undertake consistent, proportionate, targeted, accountable and transparent enforcement action, in accordance with best practice advice and guidance and enforcement policies, commensurate with the grade and post, to resolve any identified non-compliances. This will include seizing and suspending goods, prohibitions, closures, preparing and serving statutory and fixed penalty notices, simple cautions and other legal documents, and preparing files of offences investigated to recommend for prosecution commensurate with the scheme of delegation
• To investigate consumer complaints and deliver proactive preventative activity (pre- planned investigations, sampling programmes etc) designed to improve levels of statutory compliance within the borough
