The successful candidate will provide confident, specialist advice across highways and planning matters while managing a demanding and varied caseload with autonomy and sound judgement. They will offer clear leadership and direction to colleagues, supporting the effective management of identified work areas and helping to build capability within the team through supervision, coaching and expert guidance.

They will model strong professional behaviours, contribute to wider service development, and deliver practical, innovative solutions that reduce reliance on external legal support. The successful candidate will also undertake and oversee advocacy where required, support senior stakeholders by advising promptly on any potential illegality or procedural issues, and play an active role in training staff to ensure awareness of emerging legal developments and best practice.
