Our very own Kirsty Meers and Katie Whittaker proudly represented Essential Employment at the Autumn Careers Fair at Netherhall Learning Campus in Huddersfield, where they spent the day supporting and inspiring young people taking their first steps toward the world of work.
The event brought together pupils from Year 7 through to Year 13, giving them a valuable opportunity to explore future career paths, practice their communication skills, and gain confidence in what can often feel like an overwhelming journey: job hunting.
Kirsty and Katie set up an eye-catching stall packed with helpful resources, real-world insights, and expert advice. Throughout the day, they spoke with dozens of enthusiastic students—some curious about apprenticeships, some thinking ahead to part-time work, and others simply wanting to understand what employers look for.
Their goal was simple: to make job hunting less daunting and more accessible. From tips on writing a first CV, to guidance on building confidence in interviews, to advice about exploring different industries, Kirsty and Katie were on hand to answer questions and offer encouragement.
“It was fantastic to see so many young people eager to learn about their future career options,” Kirsty said. “Even the ones who weren’t sure what they wanted to do yet were genuinely engaged in finding out what’s out there.”
Katie added, “Events like this really matter. They give schoolchildren the chance to get ahead, build confidence early, and realise that there are so many opportunities waiting for them.”
At Essential Employment, we’re passionate about supporting people at every stage of their career journey—and that includes the youngest members of our community. By helping students understand the recruitment process early on, we hope to empower them with skills that will benefit them for years to come.
A big thank you to Netherhall Learning Campus for hosting such an impactful event, and to all the students who stopped by for a chat. Kirsty and Katie were truly inspired by your enthusiasm and ambition.
We look forward to attending more events like this in the future and continuing our mission to help people find their path. Essential Employment is committed to giving back to our communities through our social value initiatives.
