Workshop Manager needed in Plymouth Paying  £38.09 per ref 1678624

Full time hours on a temporary basis

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations

  • Oversee all daily workshop activity to ensure efficient delivery of scheduled maintenance, repairs, and statutory inspections.
  • Ensure all vehicles are inspected, maintained, and tested on time and in full compliance with legislation, VOSA requirements, and Operator Licence obligations.
  • Monitor workshop performance, ensuring high standards of service, safety, and output.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and support a team of 14 operational staff (14 FTE), overseeing workloads, priorities, performance, and development.
  • Promote a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage a service budget of £750,000, ensuring value for money in all maintenance, repair and inspection activities.
  • Optimise resource allocation, parts usage, procurement, and contractor relationships to support efficient operations.

Compliance, Safety & Quality

  • Develop, implement, and monitor workshop policies, procedures, and processes to ensure safe and efficient practices.
  • Take full responsibility for Health & Safety within the workshop, including risk assessments, equipment condition checks, safe systems of work, and statutory compliance.
  • Ensure vehicles and workshop operations meet legal, safety, and quality standards at all times.

Customer Service & Performance

  • Ensure a customer‑focused service, delivering work within agreed timescales and to the required standards.
  • Monitor KPIs, performance data, service delivery, and job turnaround times.

Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain current knowledge of legislation, industry standards, and best practice within fleet maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes, efficiency, and service quality.
