Principal Environmental Health Officer (Nuisance and Pollution).

5 days per week or 3 days per week

Main Purpose and scope of the post:

 

  • To co-ordinate, supervise, monitor and manage the operational work and performance of a team of professional officers 

 

  • To provide specialised technical advice on specific areas of work.

 

  • To carry out the enforcement of all relevant provisions of trading standards and environmental health legislation.

 

  • To undertake inspections for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation and to deal with complaints.

 

  • To assist and support the Team Manager in implementing the service plans and ensuring the service fulfils its statutory functions and a wider public protection role.

 

  • To provide advice and education to the public and businesses on trading standards and environmental health/public health issues.

 

Specific Post Responsibilities:

 

  1. To undertake routine/programmed inspections of business/trading premises to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation to include all professional areas.

 

  1. To undertake sampling programmes, for interpretation, examination and analysis.

 

  1. The investigation of complaints, accidents and infectious disease outbreaks with the completion of all necessary reports.

 

  1. The service of statutory notices (subject to qualifications and experience) for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation

 

  1. Prepare reports for submission to council committees and other audiences working to tight timescales and deadlines, to attend and present reports at such meetings as required.

 

  1. To prepare and take evidence for legal proceedings and make such appearances in Court and at public enquiries as may be required.

 

  1. To study and keep appraised of the scope of work carried out by the regulatory service and the changes in environmental health/ licensing legislation.

 

  1. To attain and maintain a sound working knowledge in an area of environmental health/ licensing work assigned to the post.

 

  1. To provide advice to the public, trade and businesses on environmental health and related public protection issues.

 

This is working Full time hours on a temporary contract basis
