Capital Principle Accountant 5253335 Full Time Temporary

We have a rewarding opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic finance professional to join the Capital Finance team as a Principal Accountant during an exciting period of change within the Client and Finance and Public Value services. The role is fixed until 30th June 2025 covering a secondment of the current postholder.

The Principal Accountant will play a key role in helping to support the team through change, ensuring a smooth adaption to the new finance system and processes being implemented in 2024. This will involve ensuring excellent engagement with the Future Finance Project to support the development of and the transition to the new system and processes within the team, and with service managers and budget holders across the Client.

It is crucial that core capital activities are maintained during this period of change. The Principal Accountant will play a key role in supporting the delivery of medium term and annual budgets, reporting of financial performance during the year and at year end, and in maintaining capital financial controls.

The postholder will also have direct responsibility for a portfolio of capital projects, providing strategic support and advice to service colleagues, and will have one direct report.

Strong interpersonal skills, IT and analytical skills are all key in this role. A sound understanding of accounting principles is essential, as is a positive approach to issue resolution and the ability to organise and prioritise often conflicting demands in order to achieve deadlines.
